Brief summary, reflection, and lessons learned from "The Lion Makers"

 THE LION MAKERS

BRIEF SUMMARY

Once upon a time, four Brahmans lived in a small town. All of them were friends and they live near one another. Three of them are smart and scholars who have been reading books and learning so much in life that there is nothing left in the world to explore yet they have no common sense. Their one friend did not bother to study, but he has great common sense.

The four decided to travel together. Along with their travel, two of the smart Brahmans said that their friend who did not study will not make it very far and advised him to go home however, the one scholar said that it is not right to let him go home because as a true friend, they should stick and help each other.

Along their way, they encountered a dead lion in the forest. The three smart scholars Brahmans decided to bring back the life of the lion using their intelligence. Their friend who has common sense disagree with their idea because it might kill them but still, the smart ones insisted to do so. Their friend who did not study told his three smart friends that he would climb the tree first. After which, the three scholars brought the lion into life, the hungry lion killed the three scholars and left. Lastly, the man with common sense climbed down and survived.

REFLECTION AND LESSONS LEARNED

In life, we sometimes compare ourselves to other people. The ones who are smart and intelligent seem to have more respect than those who are not. However, the story “Lion Makers” enables us to reflect that intelligence is not the basis of a man’s fortune. But, it is the ability of a man to strive and be wise in looking and opening opportunities that matter.

Aside from that, we can also reflect that there are really friends who will doubt and will somehow exclude us from the circle because we did not pass their expectations. In some particular situations, you will realize who truly cares for you. This story will let us ponder upon being meticulous in choosing our friends.

Lastly, we need to remember that we all have our own time to bloom and improve. Life is not a competition; therefore worry less about slow improvement. Let us always remember that the measure of intelligence is useless if we won’t use our common sense in doing and deciding things.

Overall, the lesson we can learn from this story are:

  • Do not judge a person based on their educational background.
  • Never underestimate a person’s ability.
  • Learn when to listen.
  • Think critically before making a decision.
