PARABLE OF RETURNING LOVE FOR HATRED
BRIEF SUMMARY
The Parable of returning love for
hatred is about a story of a Kingdom that was rubbed by another King. Unfortunately,
King Brahmadatta of Kasis killed the King and Queen of Kosales, leaving the
poor young Prince Dighavu alone. Nevertheless, before the King died, he looked
at his son and gave his last junction, “Not by hatred, my dear Dighavu, is
hatred appeased. By love, my dear Dighavu, is hatred appeased."
The Orphan Prince wandered and was
employed in the royal stables of King Brahmadatta. Dighavu knew that he was
under the King that murdered his parents. But when he was about to take revenge
on the King, he remembered the last words of his father. After King Brahmadatta
knew that Dighavu was the Son of the King and Queen he murdered, he rendered
the Kingdom to Dighavu and gave his daughter to be Dighavu’s wife.
REFLECTION AND LESSONS LEARNED
In this story, it was indeed rare to
see how an orphan Prince named Dighavu forgave King Brahmadatta, King of the
Kasis who once murdered his parents and took their wealth. To be left as an
orphan and got nowhere to go is a tough life for Dighavu however; fate and
mercy will always delight those who are oppressed.
Apart
from that, a parent who raised their kids well even for a short period of time
will surely give an impact on how they will live his or her life even if they
have lost their parents. Just like what the King of Kosales said during his last
farewell, it is engraved in the heart of Dighavu wherein it is not through the hate
that you can make peace with someone.
In life, we can encounter many people who will do wrong to us and might even cause us to break down mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically but it does not mean that we should take revenge on them just to show that we are strong enough to go on. It takes a heart and courage to show genuine love towards our enemy and let the sands of time and fate do their miracle upon your life.
Overall, the lessons I have learned from this story are the following:
- Love your enemies as how you love yourself.
- Engrave the good teachings you have from your parents.
- Work in silence and let fate bring you to your destiny.
- If it is meant for you, it will always be yours.
- Revenge is not yours, it’s the Lord.
