Brief summary, reflection, and lessons learned from "The Story of Joseph"

  THE STORY OF JOSEPH

BRIEF SUMMARY

Jacob has four wives, and one of them was Rachel, the mother of Joseph. Among the wives and children of Jacob, he loved Rachel and their sons more than he loved the others. Joseph received special treatment from Jacob which is why his brothers got jealous of him and sold him as a slave to the traders who passed by.

God was with Jacob, as he became a slave in Egypt. He had been into prison but again God was with Jacob. Years later, the Pharaoh had a confusing dream that led him to call the attention of Joseph and ask him to interpret the dream. Indeed, Jacob predicted what happened so the Pharaoh made him a viceroy.

During the famine, his brothers went to Egypt to buy some grain. But instead of being rude to them, Jacob forgave his brothers. Jacob’s dream came true wherein his brothers bowed down to him for he was already appointed as a ruler.

REFLECTION AND LESSONS LEARNED

Life has an ironic way of dealing with us and God has an amazing way of blessing and surprising those who deserved it. In this story, we can reflect that God will never leave nor forsake those people who are pure in heart. And sometimes, there will be persons who will envy your achievements, even your family, and eventually, they will try to bring you down. Despite the presence of these kinds of people, let us bear in mind that their mindset will do no good in your life. Pray for them and be merciful towards them.

Let us engrave in our hearts that having a forgiving and merciful attitude leads us to the way of God. We must also remember that God will never forget his promises to us even if we feel that the world is against us.

Overall, we can reap from this story the following lessons:

  • God will never leave us.
  • We know how to forgive because God forgave us first.
  • Jealousy and favoritism will ruin a family.
  • God’s presence is apparent even at your darkest times.
  • Those who are pure will receive the blessings of God.
  • God fulfills His promises.
