THE PARABLE OF TALENTS
BRIEF SUMMARY
Jesus narrates the parable of a rich man with three slaves. He assigns a specific of money to each slave, referred to as talents and potential talents of gold, based on that man's ability to steward and care for the money. The first steward receives five talents, the second receives two, and the third receives one. The master instructed them to look after his money, and the first two servants used their abilities to trade and profit. They returned to their lord with twice the talents! Fearful, the third servant hid the one talent entrusted to him, returning only one talent to his lord. The master chastised him, telling him that he should have invested the money and earned interest.
REFLECTION AND LESSONS LEARNED
In the story, we can tell that the rich man is like Christ while the slaves represent us. God bestowed us with blessings, and these blessings are supposed to be utilized. We can reflect upon this story that God already gave us blessings and free will in choosing our path in life. However, some men are afraid of taking risks which is why fortune does not come their way.
It is embedded in human nature to be both coward and brave, it is a man’s choice to choose which one must prevail in his character. Therefore, if a man wants success in life, he must choose bravery in taking risks, considering that our hard work aims to glorify God. On the other hand, if a man is bound with fears and negative thoughts, he will surely achieve nothing but regret for letting opportunities pass him.
Therefore, we need to work for our desires and aspirations in life because God has given us the blessings to do so. Indeed, success is served to those who work for it.
Overall, here are the lessons we can learn:
- Use God’s blessing wisely.
- Do not be afraid to take risks.
- God’s gifts must be used for his glory.
- Success comes to those who strive for it.
- God gave us what He has called us to do.
- We are accountable for our life's fortune and misfortune.
